We walked in at 6 pm on Friday nite to have a cocktail and an appetizer… it was empty and we had to ask if the bar was open. When you walk into a bar and they have dixie cups over all the liquor bottles and half the coolers are empty… it makes you wonder. We got our first round and it started out all well and good, we ordered Japanese breaded fried chicken app, and things went down hill from there.
I asked for wasabi and was given rooster sauce. Then the bar tender disappeared… he never came back. We had to ask the girl who was trying to eat her shift meal before clocking in if we could have our check.
I see people stream in and out of there during lunch time and see the reviews on Unilocal… and have walked past to see people seemingly enjoying themselves… but with so many other options around the area, it will be a while until it comes back up in the rotation.
Hopefully then I will be able to update this review with a more positive one. You get what you ask for. Melissa B. I seriously have no idea why this place has gotten poor reviews. What more do you people want from a sushi restaurant?! Megan M. Parking is easy, which is rare in this area. Drinks are great too! Drew K. Upon arrival I checked in on Unilocal and it notified me that there was a free sake bomb for checking in. I excitedly told my waitress who then deadpanned me and informed me they no longer honor that.
Take it off Unilocal or honor it until it expires. The rest of the night the waitress continued to dazzle us with her disappearing acts, her inability to tell us what the specials were, and her general « I dont care about what you want» service. Ruined it for us. Probably wont be back soon. John P. Nice atmosphere for a Wednesday night. Good place to chill and just hang out. Good sushi and good not water down beats. Valerie H. The owner, Patrick and his awesome staff have been soo good to my family, friends, and I, that I forgot I was a patron too, and not just raku— family.
These rolls are soo fresh, flavorful, and clean… always the right temperature too. Raku, however makes everything taste good, and literally fresh from Japan. I would eat this for the rest of my life if I could.
Their fresh fruit mojitos are always tasty too, and if your in to Sake, they have a huge assortment. I greatly value customer appreciation and service. Sam S. This place was a disappointment: I was hungry and still sober when I left. Portions are small. Then my sushi came out: I ordered the spicy tuna hand roll and another roll that had spicy tuna salmon and black sesame. I love sushi and this was not it.
Sushi means seasoned or flavored rice… it was not and the spicy tuna was lacking in flavor as well. When there are places like Oishii or Natto in Houston that will give you better and more food for your buck.
The drinks were ok as well. However, I was sober! I had a sake bomb free for check in two small hot sakes lychee flavored and then a shot of grand marnie which was watered down. Saba E. Some of the most delicious Japanese food my husband and I have had in Houston! Great presentation and portion sizes very unlike average Houston restaurants. We shared several items on Sunday evening: — a delicious tropical roll which includes mango — seared albacore, which melted in our mouths — kobe beef skewers with teriyaki sauce and they gave us a side of chili powder, which turned out to be a spicy combination — smoked duck which melted and slid down our throats oh so easily — we ended our meal with an ebi fruit salad, which was also delicious with their home made dressing All in all a great meal on a Sunday night.
Patricia D. Went here on a Friday for dinner. Sat at a table near the bar and looked over the menu. I then ordered a few temaki without rice love when the server accommodates this request without looks of confusion and one large roll that had mango in it. Almost like a rainbow roll with mango.
It was amazing! This place is awesome! Great, fresh sushi. Great ambience, very trendy and the staff is friendly and prompt. Great place for a date or a night….
The sushi restaurant is located in the oddest area in a small shopping center in Chinatown. After several drive-bys in the past couple of months, I…. Happy hour is unbeatable! Advertise with Us. Website View Menu. Order Online. LT Excellent sushi, service, ambiance and location. DB First time fun. We have found a new "Gem" and home for our Sushi needs! Thanks to the great staff!! Great Time! The ambiance, and the food were great!
We had the Ebi Mayo Shrimp and soft-shell crab sliders, and they were awesome! Their rolls were fabulous as well; the sushi is super fresh and melts in your mouth. The owner, is very friendly and treated us to sake on the house.
What a great value this place is. This possibly may have shot up to my 1 favorite restaurant. I will be going again and again to try out what other delicious foods I haven't tried yet.
If you live in midtown, you need to check this place out right away. What are you waiting for? If you don't live in midtown, it's worth the drive. Definitely my number one!! Classy design, super delicious food, huge parking lot and very nice and professional staff.
Lychee martini drink is so good. I enjoyed my visit there a lot and think that will be coming back there as often as possible. Hope that will never change my opinion about the place. I dont get this place Yes it was THAT bad. Ok first of all That usually means the restaurant sucks Red flag 2: We ordered water to start with You should always serve your guests drinks with ice unless stated otherwise!
Especially at a sushi restaurant! That was just really weird. Knocked off a star for that. I shouldn't have to ask for ice in my drink.
Red flag 3: If the place is practically empty see: red flag 1 you would expect quick service. That was not the case. It literally took our server forever to get our food and to ask if we needed anything.
Too busy socializing at the overcrowded hostess stand. Red flag 4: For every sushi item we wanted, our server said "Sorry we don't have that fish today".
How unprofessional is that?!! We go to a sushi restaurant with barely any sushi available? Ok, that's just stupid. The food was not good and service was slow. Dont waste your money here The only good thing I mean the only thing worth giving this place a star was the decor Also, the restaurant was kind of hot Sushi Raku, step up your game.
There are waaaay better sushi places in Houston than here, but we wanted to give new restaurants a try. Sadly, this just didn't work out.
Don't let the hip decor fool you — We were excited to try out the new sushi restaurant on a Wednesday evening. We arrived, without reservation at around 7PM. The place was buzzing and we were seated promptly. This all seemed to be a good sign. We were greeted and drinks were on the table in no time. It all went down hill after that. We had to flag the waitress down to finally place our order. Once the order was placed we sat back and waited.
After 40 minutes, and no first course, the irritation factor began to rise. Our waitress informed us the sushi bar was backed up. The salads and veggie chips we ordered could have been a nice diversion while we waited for the rolls but we had to ask for them. Upon request, the manager stopped by and told us they were running behind.
