The deferred payment plan negotiated between the city and Motorola, the selected vendor for the in-car and body-worn cameras, was approved by Metro Council earlier this year. All field training officers in the department were also outfitted, as well as 56 new officers who graduated last Thursday. Aaron said they all received cameras while in the academy.

Each outfitted officer will complete about twelve hours of classroom and hands-on training with the cameras prior to using them in the field. The continued rollout comes on the heels of two police shootings on the same day earlier this month. Police said the initial stop was a case of mistaken identity, but the interaction that followed devolved into a chaotic chase and ended in a deadly shootout, dash and body-worn camera footage released the night of the shooting by MNPD showed.
